I’m a female, I change my mind and the looks of my truck a lot, ok?! Consider it market research for you!
Diamondback HD
Overall review: Meh
Diamondback HD
Why I loved it: The looks! This cover was tough! It was great being able to stand on it without worry it would give way, I mean come on, this thing could hold 1600 lbs. We would frequently sit on the edge of it with our feet on the tailgate. I did have the crossbin as well, and it was convenient to open up the front of the cover if I needed in there.
Why I got rid of it: Water. No matter how many times we adjusted it (keep in mind it was our installers doing the adjusting, not me, so I trusted the experts), it leaked like a sieve! For a cover that states it is “waterPROOF”, this was a big letdown.
BedRug Classic Bed Mat
Overall review: A saving grace for your knees.
BedRug Classic Bed Mat
Why I loved it: Knees everywhere rejoice! I loved having a BedRug. Anytime I had to crawl in the bed to get something, this was a nice bit of cushion for my knees. Plus when I had to store or haul anything, it felt like a trunk rather than a dirty truck bed. My truck has a factory spray-in liner, and the mat worked just fine with it!
Why I got rid of it: Two reasons. I now have a hobby farm and with that comes hauling hay. These mats are easy to clean if dirt is on them, but hay is a different story! I did not want to try to fight it, it was going to be a losing battle. The second reason was the smell. Because of how bad the Diamondback leaked, there was constant water in the bed, and it gave you a pungent wet carpet smell anytime you opened up the back of your truck.
Truxedo Truxport
Overall review: A fantastic budget friendly cover
Truxedo Truxport
I can’t believe I couldn’t find a picture of this on my truck. I haven’t given up yet, though!
Why I loved it: This is a fantastic cover. Under $400, this is a tonneau cover that outperformed the Diamondback in the water department. Since it mounts above the rails, it has a porch effect and repels water wonderfully. Now if you’re going through a car wash, that’s a different story (DUH, lol!).
Why I got rid of it: I needed a cover at the time and could not make up my mind. This is one of the most popular covers we sell, and we had one in stock so it was a no-brainer. Because of my OCD, anytime I had to open the cover, I would have to re-velcro it on both sides to pull it tight so the cover wouldn’t flap around or be all wrinkled on top. This was only an issue to me, lol.
Westin’s HDX Drop Wheel to Wheel Nerf Bars
Overall Review: It’s complicated
Westin’s HDX Drop Wheel to Wheel Nerf Bars
Why I loved it: Loved the look and functionality of these steps.
Why I got rid of it: Rust. Within a year, I had to submit THREE separate warranty claims for rust on the step pads. I’m sure this is NOT the norm for Westin, but it was super aggravating, especially since these steps were only a year old. What I will say though is Westin was on the ball for these and each time they sent me a completely new set of boards.
